Butterfly is a relief that celebrates complexity in a common insect, the swallowtail butterfly. Viewed from the side, the majestic wings become the dominant element and the patterns shown on the wings arrest the eye. The pale depiction of the back wing adds to the feeling of depth.

This is one of a series of tiles depicting various insects. Other insects in the series are: Wasp, Dragonfly, Bumblebee and Cricket. (Stand not included.)
