Dragonfly

Dragonfly is a relief that addresses the sculptural problem of depicting the delicacy of its lacy wings and thin body in clay. That delicacy is accomplished through the use of intricate tracing on the wings and banding on the body. Viewed from the top, the wings become the dominant element and the veining on the wings creates a repeat pattern that contributes a feeling of rhythm.

This is one of a series of tiles depicting various insects. Other insects in the series are: Wasp, Butterfly, Bumblebee and Cricket.
