June 15, 2006 (Dallas, TX) -- Jaynes
Sculpture announced the acceptance of their latest sculpture to
be issued as a limited edition in bronze, "African Crown Crane,"
in the annual Texas Sculpture Association exhibition at The Shops
at Willow Bend. The exhibition will run from June 12th through June
24th, and can be viewed during regualr mall business hours. The
Shops at Willow Bend is located at 6121 W. Park Blvd in Plano, Texas.
An artists and awards reception will be held on the night of June
18th from 6-7:30 pm.
“African Crown Crane” is a realistic
depiction of the crane standing on one leg as it preens its wing
feathers with its beak. The dimensions are approximately 17"
(h) x 10" (w) x 7.5" (d), and it weighs 30 pounds. In
spite of its actual weight, however, the bird seems light, like
it may fly off if startled.. The large, but delicate top knot was
a particular challenge to represent in bronze. This is the first
of an edition of 20, all to be cast in bronze.
Also starting this month, Jaynes Sculpture will
be represented in a juried show, “Red Hot,” at the Creative
Arts Center in Dallas. This is the first exhibition for the new
Creative Arts Center Gallery. The relief sculpture, “Dance”
will be exhibited June 30 through August 25, 2006. The opening reception
is Friday, June 30th from 6-8:00 pm. “Dance” is a relief
sculpture depicting four, slightly abstracted, dancers in a circle,
in the manner of Matisse. It measures 18” (W) x 8” (H)
x 1.5” (D) and is in terracotta finished resin and a good
example of the excellent craftsmanship that is one of the hallmarks
of all Jaynes Sculpture offerings. It has been very well-received
since its introduction.
These exhibitions offer a welcome opportunity to
allow patrons in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to see these sculptures
by Mary Jean Jaynes first hand. Those who are unable to see either
of these shows can view the sculptures by going to the Jaynes Sculpture
web site at www.sculpture2view.com. “The African Crown Crane”
can be viewed by clicking on the What’s New page, and “Dance”
is on page two of the Gallery page.
