SCULPTURE TO BE DEDICATED AT NEW SPCA FACILITY

October 1, 2005 (Dallas, TX)- Jaynes Sculpture announced today that the sculpture for the new Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas facility here in north Texas will be dedicated this month at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17.

The sculpture, created by Mary Jean Jaynes, is site specific since the design is based on the wrought iron gates that access the large dog enclosures in the facility. It also appropriately includes not only the names of all the generous donors who made the facility possible, but also a representation of those who will benefit most. Ms. Jaynes indicated she intended the sculpture to convey the unspoken appreciation of the animals themselves for the generosity of their benefactors.

The sculpture is a relief, approximately 7 ½’ high x 3 ½’ wide x 6” deep and is located on the wall, in the foyer of the facility, where the bronze of the sculpture shimmers against the gold walls. Based on the artist’s winning design, it reflects the mission of the SPCA. The top portion, designed to compliment the unique architectural features of the new building, includes the name of the donor who made the sculpture possible: The Margot and Ben H. Mitchell Fund of The Communities Foundation of Texas. The center portion displays the names of the many people who contributed so generously to the construction of the building. Depicted in the lower portion of the bias relief are seven animals representing some of the myriad of creatures that benefit from the SPCA’s charitable work. The central figure is a seated dog, which is surrounded by a lamb, cat, kitten, puppy, rabbit and another smaller dog. The SPCA facility, dedicated to animal welfare, includes a “state of the art” pet adoption area, complete veterinary operation, and a life care cottage, nestled on 32 acres in McKinney, Texas.

Ms. Jaynes, the sculptor, was born in Dallas, maintains her studio in Irving, and has worked in the Dallas area for the last 30 years. Her work is displayed in public and private installations across the country and she offers limited edition castings of some of her more popular pieces through a virtual gallery on her web site. The new SPCA commission is Ms. Jaynes' second public installation in the DFW area that reflects an animal theme. An earlier commissioned work features a life-size bronze sculpture of a lamb that is located in the children's area of the Dallas Zoo. This sculpture and the complete collection of the artist's limited edition sculptures can be viewed by going to the gallery pages on the Jaynes Sculpture web site, www.sculpture2view.com.
